Let’s Review: OCC x Dorothy “Hellcat” Lip Tar

Yup.  Not Lip Paint or Lip Gloss.  This is Lip TAR!  Courtesy of a collab between Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and Dorothy, a rock band.

And this blood deep red color called HELLCAT is to DIE for!  I think I want to marry this lip tar!  This is my first time trying OCC.

Came across this as a promotional product for a singer in a rock band named Dorothy (also her name) and this product was created for her.  I had it on pre-order for a couple of months and it finally came today, after saying that it would be released around December 9.

I’m relieved and grateful to have gotten it at all.

The lip container is small and has no identifying info on the tube itself but the color packs a powerful punch.

See the size compared to Tarte and Colourpop:

Upon opening, the product smells kind of minty.  The applicator nib is generous, kinda big, so that makes the bottle seem even smaller.  When I started to apply, it felt thick, like putting on paint that is starting to gel.  The taste is kind of plant-like, vegetable-y, if that makes sense.  There is initial smearing – got some on the teeth, so be careful when applying. I did not use a lip liner as I usually don’t reach for one, but I think I will make a special exception for this one.  It’s just WOW.

Have your lips conditioned before trying this baby.

The wetness is very bright and shiny at first, so you have to wait a minute for it to set.  Then the shine volume goes down a little and it’s like a cross between a shiny wet look and a matte lippie.  There is some transfer when it dries but it’s not as dramatic as I thought it would be when first applied or still “fresh wet”, you know, like a smeary gooey mess.  Nothing of the kind.  Feels light on the lips once dry.   No stickiness or weirdness on the lip.  Almost feels like a powder finish when I bring my lips together to blot.

I paid $24.30 (U.S.) which included shipping.  The price of the lip tars on OCC’s site is $17.00 (U.S.).

And the claim that you just have to use a little and it goes a long way to cover the mouth, VERY true.  I didn’t have to dip back in, just work the product with the applicator wand.

Checked the ingredients:

And we have castor seed oil, hemp oil, peppermint oil, vitamin e….woohoo!  Very vegan.

OCC claims on its website that it’s 100 percent vegan and cruelty free!  At least since 2004.
