Dear Lovely Reader,

This is the second palette I bought from Sola Look, an up and coming makeup company.  I had bought their previous palette inspired by the 1980’s movie FLASHDANCE and loved the packaging detail and the color theme they used.

When I heard that Sola Look was working on another 1980’s cult classic, DIRTY DANCING, I just had to put my pre-order in when I got their courtesy email.

“Baby” is in my hot little hands and I couldn’t wait to dive in and have the time of my life!

For the 30th Anniversary of the release of the movie DIRTY DANCING, Sola Look came through ONCE AGAIN with the loving details on the packaging, (for those who remember VHS packaging will definitely know what I mean) the colors and names they used for the makeup palette shadows and blush and liquid lip (the lippie is called “Baby”).  There is also a “I Carried A Watermelon” sticker, very cute!

The colors are so different, quirky, bright and dark.

From left to right:

“Cha Cha” is a pretty purple.  The color of the Dirty Dancing logo.

“I Carried A Watermelon” is pretty self-explanatory.  It’s also an infamous line uttered by the female lead character named Baby.  The pinkish berry color reminds me exactly of a summer’s fat juicy watermelon!

The middle square is the blush called “Merengue”  — kind of a play on the fiery sexy bold orange, giving a Latin wink and at the same time, a “name” of a kind of exotic dessert!

“Back to the Playpen” is an interesting light grey tone.  It reminds me going to the “grey zone” — get it, for star Jennifer Grey?  There is also an innocence to the color.

“Johnny Castle” looks dark and mysterious, brooding.  Hmmmm.  Reminds me of the all black look that star Patrick Swayze had.

The lippie is called “Baby” after the main character that Jennifer Grey plays.  “Baby” smells of heavenly vanilla, which is typical of Sola Look’s previous incarnation with the xdepechegurl collab.  Big flat “paddle” applicator nib makes it easy to apply.

The lip color is very close to what Baby is wearing in the film, especially at the end when she is in Johnny’s strong arms.  Hmmmm.

And in case you were wondering, a new version of the movie DIRTY DANCING is coming out starring Abigail Breslin.

I will be posting pics in a later update about how the eye makeup looks.  It’s creamy on the finger and there is a bit of powdery kickback.  While they appear dark in the palette, they go on a bit lighter.  See swatch below.  I definitely can see using this for a night out, dirty dancing!

From the Sola Look website:
