Dear Lovely Reader,

When I saw that NYX had come out with a Primer, I just had to pick it up to try it.  I liked NYX Matte Setting spray and had just picked up the Dewy one to try it out.

I used the NYX First Base Primer along with the Dewy for the week to see how it applied, how it set, how it performed during an active work day greeting clients and answering phones, and how it looked getting home to decompress and eat dinner.  This encompassed a 12 hour time span with weather that ranged from sunny to rainy downpours, and temperatures that ranged from 32 degrees to 60 degrees — New York City is heading into Springtime so we get fluctuations with the weather and humidity.

The makeup and color kept, and my skin looked smooth.  My nose had a slight shine but no huge meltdown or breakup of the makeup.  I had a phone and hands to my face, checked for smoothness of the skin and it felt a little powdery, I felt a little grit, but other than that, the makeup stayed true and didn’t fade away or wash out.

The NYX primer doesn’t have a particularly memorable scent.  It smells rather bland, almost like a kid’s school glue smell.  It’s very non descript.  So for those who don’t care for floral or heavy scents, there is nothing to worry about here.

I use a hand fan to dry my face after spritzing with the primer and this helps speed up the drying process.  To check performance, I have utilized Colourpop, Smashbox, e.l.f., L’Oreal, Cargo, Maybelline and theBalm  — various cosmetic products to see how the primer performs and it does the job every time.  To further set, I used the Naked Cosmetics banana powder and blended it in, and spritzed with the NYX Dewy Setting Spray.

I did notice that when I did not use a true moisturizer (I had been using a Shea Moisture Shea Butter Moisture Wipe to cleanse and “quick moisturize” my face) the setting of the makeup was a little less smooth and I could see that my skin looked dry.  I must remember to moisturize.

This is a close up after 11 hours of wear so you can see what I mean.  But I am impressed that the primer and setting spray kept my nose (while slightly oily) from having the concealer, bronzer/contour and foundation to separate or get weird or cakey.
