LET’S REVIEW: Sola Look x Depechegurl – 5 hour update!

After trying out the lovely Flashdance palette, I had to give a try to the latest buzz around Sola Look x Depechegurl.  This is a liquid matte lip collaboration with a beauty Instagrammer named @depechegurl.

This seems to be the sole liquid matte that Sola Look has created.

The color is a rosy mauve as described on their website.  After my usual priming of my lips, I opened the tube.  I found the container itself slightly smaller than, let’s say, the Colourpop ones.

The applicator nib is very long and flat, almost like a paddle, which only makes the tube seem even smaller by comparison.

The color is a pretty every day color and may flatter different skin tones.  What is interesting is that once I applied it, to my surprise, the color on my naturally pigmented lips just seemed to make the lippie color fade into thin air.  It’s dries very quickly and there’s a strong vanilla scent when you open the product as well as after you apply it on.  So if you are not a fan of vanilla or any kind of pronounced scent, you may have an issue.  If you have pigmented lips, you may have to apply more than once.  I applied a second coat and it seems to layer well, no streaking.

I love the scent of vanilla, and didn’t mind the lingering scent after applying it.

It’s vital that  you must have your lips thoroughly moisturized and primed and soft because EVERY crack and flaw will show.  There’s no vibrancy in the color to “cover” or moisturizer within to “minimize” cracks and the color itself comes off very earthy so you must have beautifully primed and conditioned lips in order to take this product on.  The site recommends lip balm for fifteen minutes prior.  The product feels very light on the lips not heavy, but is very drying.

The website claims it’s long lasting, so I will update this post in four or five hours.

Here’s the size difference between Colourpop and Sola Look x depechegurl:

The price of this is $17.00 (U.S.), shipping added another $4.50 (U.S.).  It’s also Certified Vegan.

And I’m all about supporting smaller up and coming brands.  And it’s made in the USA!

Also from the website:

The above ingredient listing is called a “blanket ingredient list”. As per government regulations makeup companies must either have individual ingredient listings per shade/color or a blanket ingredient list that covers all shades. Many makeup companies use blanket ingredient lists because they are constantly releasing new shades. Although we use blanket ingredient lists, too, we’re happy to provide the exact ingredients of a product upon request. Feel free to contact us if you would like an ingredient listing of a specific shade. Thanks!

I ate dinner and sipped a drink through a straw, and lost the bulk of the lippie in the center, especially bottom lip.  And I don’t know if you can see it here but the area where the lips meet —  the lippie also disappeared.  Sadly, it’s not long lasting.  If you are going to use this, it may be helpful to find something to set the color to make it last longer, or keep checking the mirror and reapply.  But the color is pretty and sure does smell cupcake heavenly!
